Leveraging Local Wisdom for Better Learning

  • Since January 2019, Community Concerns Uganda Initiative has been in partnership with Twaweza ,Elevate Partners for Education and this work is being funded by International Christian University of Japan. We have worked with 30 government Primary schools in Mayuge District.
  • Positive Deviance is an asset-based approach to solving complex social problems, such as children’s low learning, by leveraging local wisdom and resources already existing in the community.
  • It Seeks to identify uncommon yet accessible and effective local solutions to problems affecting community members.
  • Goals: To identify and share strategies and practices that lead to better learning outcomes in schools.
  • Leveraging lessons from schools with similar resource levels but improved learning outcomes.

Bridging Gaps In Education

The study aims to bridge gaps between schools and their communities.

Regular dialogue sessions between parents and schools to equip parents to support children’s learning.

Locally-organized, peer-led teacher professional development sessions to provide support to teachers.
